Frequently Asked Questions

Thanks for visiting A. W. Duncan Creative. On this page, we'll discuss some answers to questions that we regularly receive from our customers.

General Questions

+ What are printable templates? How does this whole thing really work?

  1. Our printable templates are PDF files that can be downloaded from our shop for a small fee. You then edit this file/template on your own and print at your convenience.
  2. You can download, edit (individual listings have specific instructions associated with each file), and print instantly from home, local print shops/companies, or online vendors.
  3. Most of our templates are formatted to be printed on common 8.5” x 11” letter-sized paper, which you then trim down to the size you need.
  4. The license that you receive for each template is for personal use only, but you can print them as many times as you like, making things like wedding invitations extremely affordable.

+ Will I receive a physical item in the maiL?

Unless we have specifically talked about sending you a physical product, all of our listings in our shop are for digitally downloaded items only, meaning that you won’t receive any physical items in the mail from us.
Our shop can be found on Etsy here: https://goo.gl/YRki6G/.

+ Do I need to be tech-savvy to use any of the downloadble files?

Everything we sell is pretty straightforward and easy to edit. You do need to have basic computer knowledge, such as the ability to download files, open them in Adobe Acrobat Reader, and know how to change text. Other than that, everything is simple and easy to accomplish.
If you want to test out how everything works, and to see if you are able to successfully make changes, feel free to give our test PDF a try! If you are able to edit this file, then you’ll be able to handle anything from our shop: https://awduncancreative.com/s/test.pdf/.

Purchasing

+ How are my files delivered once I purchase them?

Immediately following checkout, and after your payment has cleared, you can download your file(s). If for some reason you missed the download step of the process, you can easily re-download your files by following the steps listed below:

  1. Go to the top right corner of your Etsy page and click on “you.” A dropdown menu should then appear.
  2. Select “Purchases & Reviews” from the dropdown menu. Once you locate your purchase, click on the button: “Download Files” (NOTE: This should be performed on a computer, NOT a mobile phone or tablet device).

You can watch our YouTube video on Downloading Digital files on Etsy here.

+ I accidentally deleted the file(s)! Is there a limit on how many tmies I can re-download the files?

Once purchased, you have a personal use only license to download as many times as you like!

+ How many times can I print from the template I downloaded?

The great thing about downloading editable templates from a reputable shop (not just ours), is that you can print as many times as you’d like. This makes things such as table cards, invitations, birthday cards, etc., extremely affordable and budget-friendly.

Software and Use

+ Do the templates from your shop work on both Mac and PC?

Of course! All of our printables work incredibly well no matter what desktop operating system you are on. It is important to note, however, that none of our templates are guaranteed to work on any tablet or mobile devices (you need to use a desktop or laptop to edit our templates).

+ Do I need special software to edit the templates?

Actually, yes, you do. All of our templates are designed to be edited within Adobe Acrobat Reader. This is a free program no matter if you’re on Mac or PC, and can be downloaded from the following link: https://get.adobe.com/reader/.

This is a great program to have on your computer whether you’re using our product or not, as many editable templates online use this program to edit files.

+ Do I need to install any fonts?

Sharing fonts can be illegal depending on the license associated with each individual font. Any template you download from our shop will have the font embedded within the template itself, not requiring you to download or install any fonts, but still allowing you to use the fonts we selected for the design.

Printing

+ Do you offer any printing services?

As mentioned in an earlier question, unless we have specifically talked about taking on a project for you that will require a final, printed product delivered to you, we do not offer printing services of any kind.

For printing and cutting, we however have a few recommendations of places to go that are most likely local and close to you: FedEx Kinkos, Office Max/Depot, Staples, or a local print shop. We typically recommend local print shops, as many have a great reputation for doing high-quality work at a reasonable price.

+ Is there a specific size of paper to use?

Unless otherwise noted within a specific listing, most of our printables are formatted to be printed on an 8.5” x 11” letter size sheet.

+ What type of paper/card stock should I use when printing?

We have tested all of our products using 100# - 120# card stock. We recommend these different thicknesses because regular copy paper can be too flimsy for the events that are templates are designed for. Print shops will have these different types of card stocks to choose from, however if you’re printing at a local copy shop, it can be a great idea to ask to see an item printed before printing the full run to make sure that everything is to your liking. Just ask them to see a proof before printing.

+ Do you recommend for people to print at home or at a local print shop?

There are a few different schools of thought regarding home printing and professional printing.

If you print at home, there are several important things to consider. First, consider the quality of your home printer. If your home printer doesn’t print well on the thickness of cardstock desired, it may be better to go to a print shop. Also, if the product uses a lot of ink to print, you may find it more economical to use a print shop. (NOTE: check the maximum thickness allowed for your printer, as you want to avoid damaging the print heads of your printer).

If you print at a local print shop or franchise store, then you can skip the hassle of printing and cutting your own product. We recommend using FedEx Kinkos, Staples, or Office Max/Depot. They offer printing and cutting at great prices.

Customizations

+ Do you offer any customizations to the items listed in your store? Do you take custom orders?

To keep our prices lower than many of our competitors, we don’t offer customizations on any of the products in our Etsy shop. However, as a graphic design agency we are open to discussing custom orders. It is important to understand that custom orders will cost significantly more than any of the items in our shop. If you are interested in a custom order, please email austin@awduncancreative.com. Please include “ETSY SHOP CUSTOM ORDER REQUEST” as your subject so that we know to respond and not sort the mail as spam.

+ Can I add an image or logo to my template?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to edit, add, or customize any images through Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you need a specific design incorporating pictures that you provide, email us to discuss starting a custom order at austin@awduncancreative.com. Please include “ETSY SHOP CUSTOM ORDER REQUEST” as your subject so that we know to respond and not sort the mail as spam.

Policies and Terms of Use

+ What are your policies on Cancellations, Returns, Exchanges and Refunds?

Due to the nature of our products being immediately available for download, thus allowing you to immediately receive and download the product, there are no returns or exchanges on downloadable items. If we are hired to do custom work for you, then differentiating policies will be explicitly expressed to you before any work begins.

+ What is your Privacy Policy?

Please view our full and complete Privacy Policy here: https://www.awduncancreative.com/terms-of-service-privacy-policy/

We respect your right to privacy, and do not sell/share your email or any personal information with any third-party companies.

+ What are your Terms of Use?

By downloading any of our products from our shop, you agree to our Terms of Use. The artwork that you download is for personal, non-commercial use only. You cannot sub-license, resell, share, transfer, or redistribute our products or modify them in any way other than for your own personal use.

Troubleshooting

+ There’s a plus sign (+) in the bottom right corner of the editable text field?

This plus sign (+) occurs when there is text that is going outside of the designated printable area. Another cause of this is that you may have an extra “return” in your text field (e.g. You may have pressed “Enter” or “Return” on your keyboard after entering a name). Try reducing the amount of text (if at all possible) or see if there is an extra space after your text.

+ The font is substituting?

This occurs when you aren’t using Adobe Acrobat Reader, or are possibly using an outdated/older version of Acrobat Reader. As described in each listing in our shop, you MUST use a desktop computer (NOT a tablet or mobile device) and the most recent, up-to-date version of Acrobat Reader to prevent any formatting or saving issues in relation to your file. The link to download the newest, up-to-date version of Acrobat Reader can be found here: www.get.adobe.com/reader/.

+ How do I download files that I have purchased?

Immediately following checkout (and after your payment has cleared), you can download your file(s) instantly. If you missed that step, you can quite easily re-download your files by following the steps listed below:

+ Help! I can’t seem to save my printable!

This may happen if you are not editing the downloaded file in the Acrobat Reader environment, or if you are possibly using an out-of-date version of Acrobat Reader.

+ What is a ZIP file?

ZIP files are multiple files that have been compressed into a single, smaller-sized folder. This makes it easier and more friendly to share/email numerous files to our clients.

  • How to open a ZIP file: To unzip a file or folder, you simply need to just double click on it. If you are on a PC running Windows 10, double-clicking on a ZIP file will show you the contents of the folder. At the top of the window displaying the contents of the ZIP folder, you will see a button that says, “Extract All.” Click on this button, and then specify where you would like the files to be stored. Simply click “Ok” or “Extract” to complete the extraction process and then the new folder will open showing the contents. You can then open the PDFs in Acrobat Reader and begin editing.
